Mind Your Soul

Last week, AzZahra and AlFataa organised an event called "Mind Your Soul" for students that will be taking their mid-year examination soon. Participants were taught the different methodologies of effective learning and how they can change their mindset towards learning, studying and examinations. Understanding knowledge, knowlegde seeking from a religious perspective and its role in our purpose in life are the topics covered in this event. Participants will get to sit and listen to a motivational talk by one of our brothers, watch a movie "The Message", self-reflection, qiyammulail and tazkirah session. I would like to personally thank my dear sisters and brothers from the youth group, my friends Ustaz Hanafi, Ustaz Md Noor and Ustazah Zuwainah for making this event a success. InsyaAllah, lets have it again somewhere in June.

Bamboo

One day I decided to quit...I quit my job, my relationship, my Spirituality...I wanted to quit my life.

I went to the woods to have one last talk with God. God, I said. Can you give me one good reason not to quit His answer surprised me...

Look around, God said. Do you see the fern and the bamboo? Yes, I replied.

When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed.

But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

God said, in the third year there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit.

God said, and then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant...But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing roots.

Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle.

God said to me, did you know, my creation, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots. I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you.

Don't compare yourself to others. God said, the bamboo had a different purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful. Your time will come, God said to me. You will rise high.
I left the forest and bring back this story. I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on you. God will never give up on you!

Moral: In life never lose hope and never give up or quit in life and Success will come to you later in life.
"I believe that most of us had gone through some hurdles in our life, at times, it brings us down so low that to rise again seems so impossible. God's reminders can come to us in different forms, its really up to us if we ever realise it or not. It is always about diverting our focus from the creations to the Creator Himself. Be constantly reminded of our purpose in life. Sometimes, we forget and sometimes we ignore, only when we are hit by a test then we remember. Ignorance is like a veil drawn over the face of things. The unfortunate ones who cannot remove this veil, will never be able to penetrate into the truths of creation. The greatest ignorance is unawareness of God and if it is combined with arrogance , it becomes a kind of insanity impossible to cure."

Doa Seorang Kekasih

Oh Tuhan, seandainya telah Kau catatkan
Dia milikku, tercipta untuk diriku
Satukanlah hatinya dengan hatiku
Titipkanlah kebahagiaan

Ya Allah, ku mohon
Apa yang telah Kau takdirkan
Ku harap dia adalah yang terbaik buatku
Kerana Engkau tahu segala isi hatiku
Pelihara daku dari kemurkaanMu

Ya Tuhanku, yang Maha Pemurah
Beri kekuatan jua harapan
Membina diri yang lesu tak bermaya
Semaikan setulus kasih di jiwa

Ku pasrah kepadaMu
Kurniakanlah aku
Pasangan yang beriman
Bisa menemani aku
Supaya ku dan dia
Dapat melayar bahtera
Ke muara cinta yang Engkau redhai

Ya Tuhanku, yang Maha Pengasih
Engkau sahaja pemeliharaku
Dengarkan rintihan hambaMu ini
Jangan Engkau biarkan ku sendiri

Agarku bisa bahagia
Walau tanpa bersamanya
Gantikanlah yang hilang
Tumbuhkan yang telah patah
Ku inginkan bahagia
Di dunia dan akhirat
PadaMu Tuhan ku mohon segala

Understanding Love

I had a wonderful time with my dear brothers and sisters from the mosque youth wing, when we attended a talk on Quran and Science at Sultan Mosque 3 weeks ago. The outing turns out to be a bonding session for us all, and yeah, Alhamdulillah, we bonded well and at the same time, increasing our knowledge about Islam. We had our lunch at Raffles Hospital Banquet, and there’s where story sharing everything started. We shared some stories during lunch until it was my turn to tell some story. Jamaliah sitting in front of me suddenly raise a suggestion, “Wan why don’t you share with us about the book that you read?” Then Ayu said “Yeah you mentioned you want to share something about “Love”?” Yeah, and so I did share something about the book entitled “Love and Tolerance” by Fethullah Gulen, a famous and well known spiritual teacher in Turkey. Everyone had their eyes glued on me, and was listening carefully to every word that I said. Who doesn’t, its about love, an interesting topic that I guess everyone would like to talk about. Alhamdulillah. It was my pleasure to share everything that I know to my brothers and sisters. Surprisingly a few days after that, Syaheerah came up to me and asked something that caught me with surprise. She asked “Abg Wan, I can see your eyes glittering as u were telling us the story the other day, its as if you were saying those things to someone, someone special…, kan?” Hmmm….. yeah you got that right dear sis. InsyaAllah…. May Allah guide us all towards the right path….
To that special person, wherever you may be, i would like to say thank you for everything. May Allah guides us both towards His pleasure and paradise. Ameen.

So hear goes, I’m sharing what I’ve read so far. The book really changes my perspective of love onto another level of understanding. It’s a good book, and I strongly recommend it to everyone, the language is simple yet its meaning is deep. Many people that I’ve talked to and ask about love have different understanding towards love, for sure, none of their answers and opinions about love is wrong. Everyone knows that “love” is something so positive and so pure that it can bring people together in harmony and create the happiness that each of us yearns for. However, does our understanding and definition of love is like those been defined in Hollywood love movies, Bollywood movies, is our love just for world ornaments that will eventually fades, is love so small that it is confined to just that. No! It’s huge! The definition is huge!

Love is the most essential element of every being, and it is the most radiant light, and it is the greatest power, able to resist and overcome all else. It is with His love that we are created and it is because of His love that everything is created. It is impossible for souls without love to be elevated to the horizon of human perfection. Even if someone were to live for hundreds and thousands of years, without it, they could not advance on the path to perfection. Those who are deprived of love, as they are caught and entangled in the nets of selfishness, are unable to love anybody else and die unaware of the love that is deeply instilled in the very being of existence.

Look at things from a different perspective, with different thoughts and you’ll soon realize His love being instilled in every creation there is. There are impressions of love on the face of the sun, water evaporates, rising towards those impressions, and after it has been condensed in drops high above, the drops fall joyfully onto the earth on wings of love. Then thousands of flowers burst through with love, offering smiles to the surroundings. Dew drops on leaves glitter with love and twinkle with amusement. Sheep and lambs bleat and skip about with love, and birds and chicks chirp with love and form choruses of love. Never did I realise all this things, and appreciate nature like I use to now, after reading the book.

The most direct way to the hearts of people is the way of love, the way of the Prophets. Those who follow are rarely rejected; even if they are rejected by a few, they are welcomes by thousands. Once they are welcomed thru love, nothing can prevent them from attaining their ultimate goal, God’s pleasure. After all that’s exactly our purpose in life.

How happy and prosperous are those who follow the guidance of love. How unfortunate, on the other, are those who lead the life of “the deaf and dumb”, unaware of the innate love deep in their souls!

Love is an elixir, human lives with love, is made happy by love and makes those around him or her happy with love. In the vocabulary of humanity, love is life; we feel and sense each other with love.

God Almighty has not created a stronger relation than love, this chain that binds humans to one another.

In this over-populated world, where evil is everywhere, if there is something that has been left untouched and clean, that is love, among all the fading ornaments of this life, if there is beauty that has preserved it magnificence and charm without fading, that is also love. There is nothing more real and more lasting than love in any nation or society in this world.

If Lord did not love creation, there would be neither moons, nor suns nor stars. There wouldn’t be me and you. Did we realise that? The heavens are all the poems of love, with the Earth being the rhyme.

Up to this very moment, only those who are immersed in hatred, wrath and enmity plan to resist and struggle against love. Ironically, the only cure that will calm these brutal souls is love.

The messengers and prophets extinguished the fires of hatred and jealousy kindled by the pharaohs, the nimrods and other tyrannous king, they used nothing but love. Love is a remedy to all kinds of heart sickness.

Our interest in our environment and our love for humankind- that is, our ability to embrace creation – depends on knowing and understanding our own essence, our ability to discover ourselves, and to feel a connection with our Creator. In parallel with the ability to discover and feel our inner depths and hidden potential within our essence, we will also be able to appreciate that others also possess the same potential. Moreover because these inner values are directly related to the Creator, and because a respect for the riches that are hidden in every creature is nurtured, we will start to see every living thing from a different perspective and in a different manner. In reality the level of our understanding and appreciation of one another depends on how well we recognize the qualities and riches that each person possesses. We can summarize this concept with a thought based on a saying of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w, peace and blessings be upon him, “A believer is the mirror of another believer.” Or if we were to enlarge on this saying, “a human is a mirror of another human.” If we are able to succeed in doing this, as well as being able to understand and appreciate the riches hidden within every person, we will also understand how to relate these riches to their true Owner, and thus we will accept that anything in this universe that is beautiful, affectionate, or loving belongs to Him.

In our present culture, it is not easy to witness such deep understanding of these humane feelings and values. Islamic thought sees each of us as a different manifestation of a unique ore, as different aspects of one reality. Indeed, the people who have gathered around common points, such as the Oneness of God, the Prophet, and the religion resemble the limbs of body. The hand does not need to compete with the foot, the tongue does not criticize the lips, the eye does not see the mistakes of the ears, the heart does not struggle with the mind.

If only everyone could understand this deep meaning and essence that lies deep in every soul, there will be peace. May Allah guide us all.

Leave you all in Allah's Love and Care.

Wedding Catering Services

Last Saturday and Sunday proves to be the most tiring weekend ever. I've been in wedding catering all over Singapore for the past 7 years, together with my family, uncles, aunties and cousins, but nothing beats what we went thru last weekend in Jurong. Its is estimated that 1000 people will come, but in the end, nearly 1400 came and for that all of us were caught off guard and had to rush here and there to cook extra food for the unexpected guests. The owner had forgotten to add in the number of guests after she had printed additional invitation cards for 400 more guests. Goodness. However, everything went alright, everyone is happy and the wedding ceremony went well. Looking forward to this June, where we were called to cook for my mum's friend at Buangkok Village. A chance not to be missed! hehehehe
